The mustard and magenta dharmavaram

The next sari for Yards of Legacy is from Ramya Ramesh. Ramya, just like her name is bringing a ‘beautiful’ new style to this eye catching Dharmavaram silk. Also she is a mom-to-be (sooonly!) who is wearing her mother’s sari. Such a special event.

This sari is 37 years old. Her grandfather (ajja) and aunt (doddamma) went from Thirthahalli to Shimoga to pick up the wedding saree apparently. It’s still in such good condition.

This is Ramya’s mom’s wedding saree which her mother wore during dhaare/muhurtham. She says, “I picked it for the colors, colors of fire, i feel it represents her(her mom), strong yet pure, fierce yet giver of life. also I loved the way she looked in this saree on that day! (In pictures of course! )”

It is a Dharmavaram silk saree and hence the border has faded to dull gold . That is exactly the reason why her mom doesnt want to wear this saree anymore and why she wants to! Dull gold has so much appeal than the jazzy/shiny gold, isn’t it?

Do you spot the baby bump?

Ramya chose this look because Divya Raju, her designer friend, suggested to try an old-style blouse with zero neckline and 3/4th sleeve.
But she says did not want to wear traditional jewelry and make it look very retro so she kept the attire old-style but accessorized with contemporary jewelry with kundans and pearls.
Ramya has a love for nose pins, so for this shoot she says “I decided to go dramatic and wore a big pearl nath.” She decided to tie up the hair to accentuate the big earrings and nath while using an old necklace to accessorize the bun.

Thankyou so much to you and Anupama aunty for adding this sari to Yards of Legacy .
