The Magenta and Blue Kanchee

It’s been a while since I added another sari to the Yards of Legacy collection. With so many beautiful weaves out there, hiding in many wardrobes silently for decades, such a long gap for a post seems unfair.

So here is Vidya , yes the one from Vidoutboundaries, adding her mother Sumangala’s magenta and blue Kanchee to the collection. Though she knew exactly the sari she wanted to add to Yards of legacy, it took her a while to get the right look and the decide on where she wanted the pictures. But I like the way it all came together.

This is Vidya’s mother’s wedding reception saree. She picked this one as it was her favourite among her Ma’s collection and of course the colour to prove her obsession for the shades of the colour pink.

This sari is 35 years old. A kanchee (Kanjeevaram) sari bought from Chickpete, Bangalore. Her mother grew up around cottenpet which is close by to where it was purchased. Vidya says, “Paying Rs.3500 for this sari 35 years ago was unheard of, quite expensive for back then.  But Ma is the eldest and the most dearest child in the family and among the cousins and hence her marriage was an occasion like none other.

About the look that was put together, Vidya says, she didn’t want to wear this sari in the usual style as it has become quite brittle and fragile over time. As she likes giving a new twist to old things but without losing it’s charm, she shared her thoughts and details of the look with Bhavya Gowda. And Bhavya brought her imagination to life and much more with the blouse and the skirt. Vidya wanted mustard yellow with temple designs , nothing too loud but on a solid colour, a high neck so that she didn’t have to wear a neck piece.  Bhavya beautifully worked around these specifics and put together this enchanting look.

The three colours compliment each other very well and not to forget, Vidya sprinkling her own charm to this beautiful weave. Thankyou for adding this weave to Yards of Legacy!

Until the next precious weave!
